Shakambhari devi Incarnated
as to mitigate famine and severe food crisis on the Earth. She is also known as
Goddess of vegetables, fruits and green leaves and depicted with green
surroundings of fruits and vegetables.
According to the
scriptures, Shakambari Navaratri also has great significance like Gupta
Navaratri. Mata Shakambhari
(Shakambhari) is one of the incarnations of Goddess Durga. The description of which is found in the
Puranas like Skanda Purana, Markandeya Purana, Bhagavata etc. On these days of Navratri,
mythological deeds are performed, especially Mata Annapurna is practiced. It is
mentioned in the Puranas that Devi took this incarnation when the creation of
demons caused a famine in the creation. The goddess then appeared in Shakambhari form. He had 1,000 eyes in this form. When she saw the very pathetic form of her
devotees, she kept crying for 9 consecutive days.
The tears
that came out of his eyes while crying caused famine and greenery enveloped all
around. Goddess Durga has the form
of 'Shakambhari', who had a thousand eyes, hence Mother is also called
'Shatakshi'. Shakambari Navratri begins
on Ashtami and ends on Purnima in Paush month.
